Calling Out God's Gifts in One Another, and Living Them Out
This afternoon I had the pleasure of sitting in the home of a friend, amongst a table of women where we named our gifts, and spoke the gifts we saw in one another. For so long I tried to hide the gifts God gave me out of fear of being misunderstood.
We joyfully recalled the moments that we moved forward in what God asks of us, confidence found in Christ, and my heart swelled in my chest, praising God.
It was beautiful.
I cannot begin to know how to calculate medicine dosages in my head, play the cello, host a comfortable party (and still be able to join my guests), cook for the sick, problem solve in emergent situations, nor homeschool with babies crawling around. I shy away from saying that I love to sew, create, study the Bible, and write.
Why?
I think I grew up with the root of pride so deeply feared that I didn’t realize that I was allowing that to hush the gifts God has asked me to pursue, develop, and share (imperfections and all). I was placing the opinions of others before what God was asking me to do.
None of us are perfect in our giftings. That is the amazing part. God calls us, equips us, and fills in the gaps. None of what we try to do, share, say, write is worth anything without God’s grace and guidance.
God has created us so uniquely and with gifts that no one else has. Each person owning the deep realization that when we are living out these gifts in the confidence of Christ. We can worship God through what He gave us.
“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Romans 12:3-8, ESV
What are you just great at? How are you using that to glorify God?
If you’re like me and have shirked back out of fear, share them below in the comments or email me. Pray about finding the time and opportunities to use them. I’d love to celebrate with you!
